Instructions

Open the Photoshop version of your edited image
Open your layers panel (use Window menu to find it if you do not see it on the right)
Click on Adjustment Layer icon and select "Black and White"

​Select the Paintbrush tool, Control click to adjust size
Set black as your foreground color
Select layer mask and paint black over areas you want to be in color
Switch foreground color to white to take it back to black and white
Use Command + and - to zoom in and out to view your edges for a more precise mask
Use Properties to change the density of your mask feather the edges
For even more advanced masking, try adding a second adjustment layer and you can even copy your mask by holding option and dragging the mask and dropping it on the new layer

Find the layer mask icon on your layers palette.  Use a paintbrush and select black to hide areas of that image layer.

Below is a picture of Ansel Adams with two versions of his famous image, Moonrise over Hernandez.
​The one on the left is straight from the camera; the one on the right is after Ansel worked his darkroom magic.  To the right you can see an example of his use of the zone system for clarity and depth.
