Nature & Landscape Photography

How to Compose the Landscape

Picture
1. Include a main subject to engage the viewer
2. Use the rule of thirds to position your key elements
3. Use foreground interest to create depth
4. Use leading lines to suck the viewer into the scene
5. Change your angle for a unique perspective
6. Photograph with a tripod
7. Use lots of negative space to create minimalist landscape compositions
8. Don’t be afraid to go tight
9. Use layers to help simplify the scene
10. Incorporate diagonal lines to add movement
11. Use geometry, especially triangles, to add flow and stability
12. Find natural frames to focus the viewer
13. Look for patterns to add compositional coherence
14. Work each scene before moving on15. Try to portray scale16. Don’t forget about color17. Break the rules
