Classification: Part Time NOTE: Hours required per week vary by discipline, but in general interns are required to work a minimum of 2 - 5 hours/week. A set schedule will be arranged with the intern advisor.
Job Summary: NOTE: This is a general description for all Fine Arts Interns. Every girl’s role will be further defined by their Intern advisor. No job description can anticipate all responsibilities; as such, there may be other assigned duties.
A Fine Arts Intern will support the overall mission of the Department and help communicate opportunities and events in the Arts to the student body. This role belongs to a girl who is interested in gaining practical, hands-on experience on the administrative side of both visual and performing arts. Each internship is tailored to the interests and strengths of the intern. The Foxcroft School Fine Arts Department wants all interns to gain a better understanding of inventory and classroom management, and curatorial experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Become familiar with the physical layout of all of the fine arts exhibition and performance spaces at Foxcroft
Develop plans with the instructors to enhance student knowledge about the fine arts department programs, events, and opportunities available
Qualifications:
Student may be a Sophomore or Junior
Boarding students and Day students are eligible for these positions – Day students should be available for evening and weekend activities when needed
Outstanding role model who is empathetic and possesses good communication skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance successfully homework and extracurricular activities
Strong interpersonal skills, including team building, listening, and strategic thinking
A positive attitude and high energy
Willingness to learn new skills
Interest in all aspects of Fine Arts
Ongoing Tasks:
Keep supplies and general inventory in order
For example: The Studio Art Intern will keep the cart organized and fully stocked. She will check for items that need to be replaced/restocked. She will also keep the sink and counters clean as well as the quiet corner to ensure everyone has a space to produce their best work.
Seek out new exhibition opportunities both on and off campus
For example: The Digital Arts Intern will work with the gallery owner at Artists in Middleburg to coordinate the annual photography exhibition.
Assist in preparation for and volunteering during Arts Weekend
Research opportunities for students to submit work in regional and national competitions
Occasional Tasks:
Change out the displays on the Fine Arts Bulletin Board
Make Morning Meeting Announcements
Help to develop and distribute arts related promotional materials both in print and online
